ACUA hosts "bike recycling" events during the year to keep used bikes out of the waste stream, saving landfill space and getting them into the hands of people who can use them.

In the past, ACUA has worked with Pedals for Progress, a non profit founded by former Peace Corps member Dave Schweidenback whose organization works with people and communities in need overseas, providing cheap, non-polluting transportation to get to jobs, markets, customers, and schools.

Since 2011, ACUA has been working with a local resident who collects and refurbishes bikes which are donated to local kids through St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church in Atlantic City. Collections are held in the spring and fall and dates will be posted here. If you cannot wait for a collection, you can contact the church to arrange to deliver your bike.

Thrift stores and other charities offer additional options for "recycling" your bike! As a last resort, bikes can be disposed of as metals at the ACUA.
