Gov. Christie has signed into law the most restrictive fertilizer content standards in the nation for nitrogen and phosphorous. The new law also addresses fertilizer application practices.|
These standards and practices will help reduce pollution from nutrients in all of New Jersey’s waters.
Implementation will happen in 3 phases. Effective immediately, residents may not apply fertilizer when ground is frozen. Fertilizer may also not be applied during – or just before – heavy rain and on impervious ground. Also, fertilizer containing phosphorous or nitrogen cannot be applied within 25 feet of any body of water unless using a drop spreader or targeted spray.
