NJDEP Adopts Strict Fertilizer Standards and Practices |
Gov. Christie has signed into law the most restrictive fertilizer content standards in the nation for nitrogen and phosphorous. The new law also addresses fertilizer application practices.
These standards and practices will help reduce pollution from nutrients in all of New Jersey’s waters.
Implementation will happen in 3 phases. Effective immediately, residents may not apply fertilizer when ground is frozen. Fertilizer may also not be applied during – or just before – heavy rain and on impervious ground. Also, fertilizer containing phosphorous or nitrogen cannot be applied within 25 feet of any body of water unless using a drop spreader or targeted spray.
