You may have heard recent
controversy regarding electronics recycling in New Jersey.
The New Jersey Electronic Waste Management Act was enacted
to help ease the burden of disposal on consumers. However, “many manufacturers scaled back their payments when
the cost of recycling rose for various reasons nationwide.” (NJ.com)
As a result, some recyclers across
the state have been forced to close their doors. So far, no Atlantic County collection sites have closed; however Best Buy
has begun charging $25 for TVs and computer monitors.
Please contact your local public
works department (contact links below) to see if your town collects
electronics or consult our list of local stores that accept them for recycling. Never toss electronics in your trash!
you’d like to help, please call your local legislator or the governors’ office and
share your concerns about e-waste in New Jersey.
