Experienced and beginner gardeners alike are welcomed to
participate in the monthly “Garden Talks” at the Atlantic County Utilities
Authority (ACUA) in Egg Harbor Township. Held in partnership with the Rutgers
Cooperative Extension Service, these informal talks at the ACUA’s Community
Garden offer a chance to learn from Atlantic County Master Gardeners and to ask
questions about growing your own healthy food.
The talks will be held on the second Thursday of the month at
5:30 pm from May through September. Each month, Rutgers Master Gardeners will
present a topic relevant to what is happening at that point of time in the
gardening season. The talk on May 14
will focus on “Essentials for New Gardeners” and will discuss growing
vegetables organically and using compost to enrich the soil.
ACUA’s Community Garden offers a great backdrop for these
informal information sessions. The garden, which offers spaces for those who
cannot garden at home, has several garden beds which are still available for
the 2015 growing season. ACUA’s Garden is located at the ACUA’s Environmental
Park, 6700 Delilah Road, Egg Harbor Township. The garden is behind the Geo
Administrative Building, the first building on the right when you enter.
Upcoming topics include:
June 11 - “Pest Walk”
- Identifying & solving garden problems organically
July 9 - Succession

August 13 - Extending
