On Friday, November 17, the Atlantic County
Utilities Authority will host an Open House at ACUA’s Recycling Center, joining
thousands of local organizers holding recycling events across the country to
celebrate America Recycles Day (ARD), a national initiative of Keep America
Beautiful.
ACUA will offer guests a chance to learn what
happens after recycling is collected curbside. “Behind-the-scenes” tours (5th grade and up) give people a
chance to see how single-stream, mixed materials are sorted and prepared to be
recycled into new materials. The event also features crafts, games and activities
for kids, including the chance to “touch-a-truck” with ACUA’s collections
vehicles on hand, and a chance to win a 95-gallon recycling cart for adults.
“America Recycles Day is a great way to bring
attention to recycling. Recycling is still one of the easiest ways for
residents, schools and businesses to make a positive impact on the environment.
We want everyone to get to see how recycling works and to understand the
important role they play in reducing waste and pollution,” said Rick Dovey,
ACUA president.

America
Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day and coast-to-coast
community-driven awareness campaign dedicated to promoting and celebrating
recycling in the United States. It has been held on – and in the days around Nov.
15 since 1997. This will be ACUA’s 5th Annual Open House Event to
celebrate.
