ACUA Reminds Residents and Visitors: We Will Collect Curbside Waste as Scheduled on Memorial Day, Please Keep Waste Off the Beach

May 26, 2021

The Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) reminds residents and visitors that trash and recycling collections will be performed as scheduled on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, 2021.

The Authority also reminds visitors and residents that it’s just as important to pick up trash and recycling off the beach as it is at home. Please use receptacles provided or bring items back with you. Never leave litter behind! It will get washed into the ocean and may be mistaken for food by marine animals, cause injuries to those animals, and pollute our waterways.

“As our population increases in Atlantic County throughout the summer season so does the amount of waste generated in our communities. We remind visitors and residents: give us that waste to handle, do not give it to the ocean,” said ACUA President Rick Dovey.

In addition to providing curbside waste collection to most Atlantic County communities, ACUA is responsible for managing and finding a final home for that waste. Currently, the waste is either placed in ACUA’s state-of-the-art landfill which turns gases created in the landfilling process into energy or is sorted to be recycled into something new.

ACUA also administers the Atlantic County Clean Communities Program, which provides opportunities for residents to participate in road and community cleanups.
