ACUA and its emergency contractor are working to identify and repair a leak detected in the underground sewer force main located along Old Egg Harbor Road in Hamilton Township, New Jersey. The force main transports wastewater from Hamilton Township to ACUA’s treatment facility in Atlantic City.
Overflow is contained, and emergency contractors are working to excavate the area to determine the source of the leak. Repairs will begin immediately once the cause is identified. The NJDEP has been notified.
A lane shift is currently in place to redirect northbound traffic on Old Egg Harbor Road between Route 40 and Underhill Park.
There is no impact to sewer service for residents and businesses in the area.
ACUA will provide additional updates as this work progresses.

The leak is contained and repair work is expected to resume on Monday, June 15, 2026.
Both lanes have reopened to traffic. A lane shift is expected to go back into place on Monday, June 15, 2026.

To facilitate the repair work, Old Egg Harbor Road has been closed temporarily between Route 50 and Route 40.

The repair has been completed and the road is expected to be open to traffic this afternoon.
