New Jersey residents are permitted to transport solid waste that is produced at home to the ACUA in a vehicle with a non-commercial license plate having a total weight (vehicle + solid waste) of less than 9,000 lbs. If towing a trailer with solid waste, the total weight must be less than 16,000 lbs.
For example, if you are resident that has completed a project at your home and are transporting remodeling or clean-out debris in a vehicle with a non-commercial license plate, this is acceptable.
Rented vehicles to transport waste are not permitted (ex. vehicles from Lowes, Home Depot, U-Haul, Just 4 Wheels, etc.).
Any commercial motor vehicle, vehicles with a business name or advertisement, or "farm" vehicles are not permitted without an NJDEP registration.
Any customer not in compliance must be turned away at the landfill by New Jersey State law.
A small hauler (contractor, roofer, landscaper, etc.) that is transporting solid waste must register and obtain an A-901 Exempt Solid Waste Decal from the NJDEP in order to bring waste to the ACUA.
To register with the NJDEP visit:
As a commercial hauler (contractors hauling waste for others, mattress/bedding removal, residential commercial or estate cleanouts, furniture dealers doing removal/disposal, etc.) transporting waste created by someone else, you must be licensed and obtain A-901 Licensed Solid Waste Decal from the NJDEP.
