In 2019, ACUA installed new bar screens in the Headworks building of the wastewater treatment facility in Atlantic City, NJ. The bar screens help protect our infrastructure by catching unwanted items like rags and toys that inadvertantly get flushed down the toilet.

In 2021, ACUA invested $2.1 million to replace the main pipeline that carries wastewater from the Island of Brigantine to our treatment plant in Atlantic City, NJ. The replacement project is a major component of ACUA’s asset management plan to ensure the integrity of our sewer pipelines.

Downbeach Force Main Upgrade

In February 2022, ACUA completed the replacement of a critical sewer pipeline that connects Longport, Margate, Ventnor, and a section of Egg Harbor Township, to our wastewater treatment facility in Atlantic City, NJ. In total, 4,300 feet of steel pipe was replaced with a new high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipeline. The project helped strengthen an important piece of Atlantic County's wastewater infrastructure.

ACUA has partnered with PolyGone, a startup created by Princeton University graduates, to remove microplastics from treated wastewater at its wastewater treatment facility in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Solids Handling Improvements Phase 1A

Solids Handling Improvements Phase 1A

ACUA is embarking on a multi-phase Solids Handling Improvement Project. Phase 1A is focused on improving the thickening, dewatering, and conveyance of solids. It includes the replacement of key equipment, such as centrifuges and sludge conveyors. This new equipment will improve process equipment efficiencies associated with the treatment and disposal of wastewater biosolids.

Ventnor City Pump Station Upgrades

Ventnor City Pump Station Upgrades

ACUA completed upgrades to its Ventnor City pump station, which transports wastewater from Ventnor, Margate, Longport, and a section of Seaview Harbor to ACUA’s treatment facility in Atlantic City, in 2025. Originally built in the mid-1970s, the station is underwent structural, electrical, and mechanical repairs.
