In addition to operating the landfill on Delilah Road in Egg Harbor Township, ACUA also oversees the closed Pinelands Park Landfill on Ocean Heights Avenue in Egg Harbor Township.
The 100-acre landfill, which closed in August 1990, sits below McCullough’s Emerald Golf Links 18-hole course -- the first golf course to be built on top of a closed landfill in New Jersey.
The landfill contains several lining and cover systems, two stormwater management infiltration ponds, a leachate storage facility, and an active landfill gas extraction system -- all of which need continual monitoring. ACUA is responsible for assuring these closure operations meet the environmental requirements set forth by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP).
ACUA assumed ownership of the landfill in November 2012 in an unprecedented agreement.
