ACUA Will Host Public Hearing on Seawall Project on Wednesday, March 29

The Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) will host a public hearing for its upcoming Seawall Project on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, from 6 to 7 p.m.

The Seawall Project involves installing 4,896 linear feet of vinyl sheet pile seawall (a.k.a. bulkhead) around the perimeter of the 40-acre uplands portion of ACUA’s regional wastewater treatment plant in Atlantic City. The proposed seawall will be critical in protecting the entire treatment plant from potential storm surges. The project is designed to prevent flood waters from inundating the critical infrastructure of the treatment plant, which could compromise the treatment process and potentially cause harm to the surrounding environment.

The project has been submitted for funding through the NJDEP’s Environmental Infrastructure Trust Funding Program and will cost roughly $8.5 million.

The public hearing is a requirement of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s (NJDEP) Level 2 Environmental Review procedure. The notice of public hearing was advertised in The Press of Atlantic City newspaper on February 16, 2017 in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code Section 7:22-10.10.
