Meet ACUA Staff: Wayne

Wayne works as an Equipment Operator II at ACUA. He started his career at the Authority in 2018 as an Equipment Operator on the night shift.

Today, his work day begins at 7 a.m. in the recycling center where he loads 100-yard trailers with single-stream recycling collected from Atlantic County homes and businesses. The trailers are then transported to ACUA’s current recycling partner, Mazza Recycling, in Tinton Falls, NJ.  The process is a team effort – he must coordinate with Mazza’s drivers to determine how best to transfer the evolving volume of material.  He also makes sure to keep the tipping floor tidy for tour groups that drive through. 

Wayne credits ACUA with the opportunity to gain experience on different types of equipment and gain his CDL. Throughout his time here, he has driven 18-wheelers, articulated dump trucks, front end loaders, bull dozers, and more. Prior to applying, Wayne received a heavy machine operator certification but did not have a commercial drivers license (CDL). Wayne received his CDL with training and testing opportunities from ACUA.  He encourages other employees to consider the opportunity. “Anyone can get their CDL, as long as they are able to take the time to learn it.”
